Today is just another day of working on my new photography business, and if you know me, when I’m working, I do not stop to eat! So, I am making a concerted effort – and not just to eat, but eat healthy foods. This is a challenge for me. A really BIG challenge. I do not like to stop for food. I do not like the prep that is required to eat something tasty and constantly think of all the other, more productive, things I could be doing with my time than slicing onions, or sauteing garlic to make a dish I will consume in under 15 minutes. I know, I know – Think of eating as a necessary and productive part of life. We are talking about over thirty years of conditioning folks! I cannot just change my mind that quickly. I have lived most of my life eating on the go. Grabbing a cold hot dog (I know, gross), a slice of bread with cheese slapped on it, and worst of all, fast food. But I am trying. I am hoping that by taking some pictures of what I eat, I will in some way gain an interest in this process we call “eating.”
The nice thing about berries is that you can eat them whole – no slicing or dicing. Although, I did slice the strawberries because they were huge! At our home, in Dale City, VA, we have a bunch of wild blackberry bushes in our backyard. Last year, we did not get to pluck many of them because we were busy, but the summer before we collected pounds of delicious berries! I hope to make a little more time to pick them this year and give them to family and friends. Maybe you can get on that list! I have a recipe for a killer peach/blackberry cobbler.
After my berry lunch break today, I walked outside with my husband (who is home sick) and we admired our tulips that are peeking above our mulch bed. It is a beautiful day today – sun is shining and a cool breeze blows just when the bright sun gets a little too warm. Virginia, and specifically Northern Virginia, is known for its unpredictable weather. One day it could be seventy degrees and warm and the next freezing with a chance of snow. This is the life we live at the mercy of the weather. As a matter of fact, I think there is possible snow this weekend :-/ It was nice to get out and photograph our baby flowers and spend a few minutes away from the computer. I can’t wait to see what colors bloom in the next couple weeks!
Have a Berry Beautiful day!
Love, Melinda

I love taking a picture of the first strawberries I pick in the season. The 2 little guys I watch gobble them down pretty quickly so I didn’t get a chance this year! Also didn’t have spray whipped cream to put on top – very sad faces all around! Spring flowers have been gorgeous this year up her in Hunt Valley, MD. Wish you could take some pics up this way!
